Will Sessions

Before reinterpreting the music for a pretty well known classic hip hop album from NY, Will Sessions produced a series of wildly successful live shows for Guilty Simpson, Phat Kat, and Black Milk in their hometown of Detroit in 2009 and 2010. The band had performed dozens of times in previous years within multiple genres—namely funk, jazz, and afrobeat—but had never tackled hip hop until these shows. “Real Sessions” revisits those performances with 10 selected live recordings showcasing their full 8-piece band recrafting beats from Madlib, J Dilla, Black Milk, Mr. Porter, and Nick Speed; with DJ Dez providing his trademark cuts and scratches.

Recorded to multi-track, fully mixed and mastered. Includes an 18-page booklet.

Atmosphere Live @ The House of Blues in San Diego

Last Friday Atmosphere’s tour stopped in San Diego so I drove down to hang out with some of my best friends so we could all enjoy one of our favorite hip hop duos of all time. This is the 10th time I’ve seen Atmosphere perform live and we were lucky because Slug was celebrating his 44th birthday that night and seemed extra amped to be playing in front of the San Diego crowed. The place was packed (as you can see from the photos and videos) and Slug did his thing as always, digging back into his vast library of classics which us die hard fans could not get enough of. I grew up listening to this music and even though Slug is old enough to be my dad, he is still one of the best in the game and it was almost a nostalgic event as you could see that Slug too had grown up a lot since the beginning. Slug may not be super gritty or have crazy punch lines but is music is the truth and full of soul. These days I value that over just about anything else.

If you have a chance to see this tour please do it. Request a media pass and go nuts because who knows how many more chances we will have to see these guys really do this with everything they have. Check out the videos below and stay up!
