R.I.P Grandmaster Roc Raida

X-Ecutioners member and legendary turntablist Grand Master Roc Raida died this morning representatives of the DJ confirmed with AllHipHop.com.

“The legendary Grand Master Roc Raida has passed away this morning,” a representative for the DJ told AllHipHop.com. “Family and friends will miss him dearly. Please give the family their privacy.”

The source refused to give details of his illness or injury, or even the cause of Roc Raida’s death, but did state that previous reports of an injury during karate class or a car accident were inaccurate.

The rep confirmed that Roc Raida was hospitalized last week, but would only state that the DJ’s death was totally “unexpected.”

Grand Master Roc Raida started DJ’ing at the age of 10, after being inspired by his father, who was a member of Sugar Hill Records group, Mean Machine.

Roc Raida was an original member of the X-Men turntable crew, who later became The X-Ecutioners, a DJ collective that helped innovate the art form of turntablism.

He became internationally known, after taking home the DMC World DJ Championship in 1995.

Grand Master Roc Raida released 12 albums total as a solo artist and as member of The X-Ecutioners.

Roc Raida, born Anthony Williams, also produced tracks, crafting song or worked with artists like Smif-N-Wessun, Fat Joe, Ghostface, Black Thought, Pink, Linkin Park and others.

His scratching can also be heard on O.C.’s timeless Hip-Hop track “Time’s Up.” Additionally, Grand Master Roc Raida served as Busta Rhymes’ official tour DJ.
Rhymes expressed his condolences today, via his Twitter page, after Roc Raida’s death became a trending topic on the popular micro-blogging site.

"I just wanna thank everyone 4 ur love and support and ur prayers," Busta Rhymes Tweeted. "We will never let ur name die Roc...We love u and will 4ever miss u...RIP…I was told 2day, We r loosing [sic] all of these great people this year as a result of God calling his army because something is about 2 go down!

"Grand Master Roc Raida was also the creator of the popular Gong DJ Battle.

Nebz Supreme & Moka Only-Summer Notations Album Sampler

To wrap up the summer of 2009, in conjunction with Domination Recordings comes The Summa Sound Clinic. Consisting of Emcee Nebz Supreme of southern California and B.C famous Moka Only on the boards, this is not a new brand of hip hop but yet a project of two friends collaborating efforts to bring good music back in the spirit of the old ATAK hip hop days. The raspy baratone that is Nebz Supreme projects directly about everyday struggles from heartbreak (Tears & Glitter / Smiling Faces), to financial issues (Daily Grind), family disfunction (Float, Maroon) to nearly losing those closest to his heart and even bringing spots of comedy, lightheartedness and bragadocio (Next To Blow, Saucey Fellow) to the table. All of this over some of the most stellar production yet to be heard by the west coasts most prolific Moka Only aka Torch, who even stops by to trade verses with Nebz on a handful of tracks. The albums vibe is hip hop in it's purest form and shines proudly in it's murky analogous sound as an ode to the old school underground tapes that old school heads came to love so much back in the mid to late 90's. The album also features guest appearances from Eso Tre of Substance Abuse and Nebz Supreme's sister vocalist Lorena as well as his alias and altered ego Rio Escudo. For those of you unfamiliar with Nebz Supreme, pick up this album you will not regret it and get familiar with the distinctive voice that is fast becoming a force to be wreckond with. Summa Sound Clinic 2009, Nebz Supreme and Moka Only!

Conspiracy Worldwide Hip Hop Radio Uncensored Hip Hop Radio featuring live guests such as Immortal Technique DJ Premier Slaughterhouse La Coka Nostra

On this controversial show we have:

Chino XL is with us for a typically thorough and massively energetic feature-length interview. We talk Ricanstruction, the laws of destiny's path, how President Barack Obama loves his music, his forthcoming guest features, Immortal Technique and a plethora of other topics, including the fact that an extremely well-known female artist regularly downloads this show. Who could it be? This is essential listening.

Masta Ace sounds as accomplished as you'd expect, as he saunters onto the show to chat history, his learning curve, the new Ed OG album 'Arts & Entertainment' and more in a revealing interview with this pioneer and veteren of hip hop.

Lowkey takes time out of his non-stop schedule to address the highly anticipated single 'Voices Of The Voiceless', his first collaboration with Immortal Technique, dropping September 21st on iTunes. He explains who the voiceless are and why they are marginalized, as well as touching on themes such as politics, the BNP, his future solo work and more.

Poison Pen is having his Freeway-esque beard trimmed whilst talking to us on this show. You can always expect the unexpected with this guy but do prepare to be shocked, teased and amused as we talk money shots, porn stars and Peter North. Be on the look out for the fight that starts outside a retail outlet selling cooked chicken.

Bekay is one the most witty and gifted emcees out there and he has an album dropping on November 10th 2009. Equaling the pure enthusiastic electric that Chino XL brings to this show,. Bekay even takes time out to deliver an exclusive acapella verse which is worthy of a download alone.

AND THAT'S NOT ALL!

A-Alikes join us to address 9/11, the falseness of the recession, why they always burn perfectly-good money on stage and the importance of realsiing 'people over money'. A true pleasure.

Enjoy and let us know you listened! And thank you all for making us reach the dizzy heights of top 10 Hip Hop Podcast on itunes above the many 1000s on there (and many "huge" commercial radio stations)

Brother Ali returns with the follow up to his critically acclaimed 2007 album The Undisputed Truth. Us is an album about the people closest to Ali…those that have shaped him as a person. Many of the stories are ones we know exist but might not have a personal understanding of. American slavery from the perspective of the enslaved as well as those that carry the burden and bloodline of the slave master, rape and the struggle to regain control after experiencing it, drug abuse, depression, homophobia, divorce and more. All heavy topics that very few can approach with the same human touch and understanding as Ali. Make no mistake Us is definitely a heavy album but as always Ali finds time to celebrate not only life’s blessings but his respect and love for the art of MC’ing as well.

As with all his previous releases, Ali’s musical landscape has been crafted by Atmosphere beatsmith, Ant. Staying true to their soul and blues influence they’ve become known for, Us takes on a more lush and dense sonic quality with the duo’s incorporation of live instrumentation. With guest appearances by Chuck D, Freeway, Joell Ortiz and Stokley Williams of Mint Condition, Brother Ali and Ant have once again crafted a beautifully intelligent and entertaining album for and about all of Us.

"J.Period & K'NAAN are pleased to present the third and final installment of The Messengers tribute to Fela Kuti, Bob Marley & Bob Dylan. Episode #3 celebrates America’s reluctant Civil Rights song leader and poetic voice, Bob Dylan. Dylan’s own struggle with his status as a “Messenger” is well-documented: he shunned the tremendous expectations placed on him during the 60’s, preferring to see himself as a songwriter rather than a social leader. Nevertheless, the impact of his music is undeniable and, over 40 years since Dylan’s arrival, J.Period & K’NAAN set out to show his continued relevance, both socially and musically. On The Messengers #3: Bob Dylan, J.Period remixes and re-invents Dylan’s music for the hip hop generation, while K’NAAN channels Dylan’s poetic voice with heartfelt and compelling lyrics. The result is an unprecedented and truly unique mixtape offering. The Messengers #3: Bob Dylan also features appearances from DJ Preservation and bassist, Brian Satz." More info here
