Sorry man but what exactly are you talking about here? You don't like hip-hop? You could go against almost all the record producers of hip-hop music on this basis. It's true that Mulatu Astatke is a great musician, but so are Ahmad Jamal, Roy Ayers or Gil Scott-Heron, etc. Yet, they were all sampled by musicians later on. I think DUMHI did a good job here and the album is great (I prefer the one with lyrics though). On the other hand if you're agains sampling in general, that's a different thing.

I do love hip-hop but in other terms and am not an english native speaker i'll try to explain as i can.
Its nothing about sampling at all, its maybe how sapling was done, maybe i should listen to it again its almost a trend those times with ethiojazz (?) and here are Mulatu mainly so its not about the "propper" production skills, its about the choice and cooking the sample. I expect more work with this as classic: to camoflage it or cut chop pork style lets say...

and yeah sorry, i was a bit angry on my post. As well not so constructive....
im Quiting smoking cigs since 12 days

No problem, man! First I thought you're a true collector of classic jazz and against sampling. Well, I'm not an MPC holder so I don't know how things exactly sound technically when chopped, nevertheless I like DUMHI's Jungle. Reef The Lost Cauze's spitting over 3 tracks, which are the best ones I think. You should give a listen maybe to the original version with the lyrics, hopefully it won't disturb you as much as the instrumental version. Do you really think it's becoming a trend to use ethiojazz samples? Yet, for me it was something new here :)

Quitting smoking? Huh man, I'm feeling you. Did that but couldn't go on after 9 months because of personal issues. I truly wish you good luck!

peace

Yeah u know, since Jim Jarmusch used Mulatu Astatqe music for his "Broken Flowers" movie, everyone discovered Ethiopian Music at this moment.

So Buda Music re released all Ethiopiques catalog with tons of everything amazing from M.Ahmed to M.Getatchew

Nas & Jr Gong has also a Mulatu astatqe sample in their album....and really not the most ninja one....So famous and yeah, i think useless. Will be better to do a featuring with him straight than sampling his music from back in 70's. Mulatu is touring a lot actually...and recently released with Mochilla for TIMELESS DVD BoxSet (with Song for ma Dukes and Arthur Verocai into it)

Anyway

I didnt smoke yet....but i didnt quit H.....ahahahahha

Peace
