Akrobatik Reportedly In Stable Condition After Heart Attack
According to close associates, the Boston rapper suffered a heart attack, had open heart surgery and is now recovering.
Boston emcee Akrobatik reportedly suffered a heart attack last night. According to close associates Mr. Lif and Edo.G, he went into open heart surgery earlier today and is in stable condition following the procedure.
News of Akro's hospitalization first broke on Twitter, where there were rumors of a medically-induced coma. Several of his aforementioned peers confirmed a heart attack, but explained that he was not in a coma.
Akrobatik has been a fixture in the Boston hip-hop scene for over a decade. He most recently released his second studio LP Absolute Value in 2008, and appears each morning on JAM’N 94.5’s morning show for his daily “Sports Wrap-Up.”

He has entertained and excited millions throughout his musical career, both as an advocate of free speech and through the bare-faced notoriety of his group, The 2 Live Crew. But now he is set for change and as his campaign for Mayor of Miami heats up, we hear about the artists that have turned their back on him and his society – from millionaires like P Diddy to the unjustifiably rich Cash Money Records label owners, Luke stands on his own now and is determined to be victorious in his visions. Elzhi steps onto the show, moments away from a European tour to promote his latest dope release “Elmatic”. The future for Elzhi looks exciting – colabs with Madlib, Crooked I,MF Doom are all discussed here as well as the possibility of an Elzhi and Eminem collaboration.
Vast Aire pounces onto the show to discuss his new album “OX 2010 Street Odyssey”, including the multi-layered concepts behind each track, the many guest features and the creative process itself. He reveals the reason why Vordul Mega stepped away from music, citing one violent event involving a crazed fan as the main cause of Mega’s back step, as well as discussing his current relationship with EL-P, Cage and Def Jux’s closure. New Cannibal Ox music could happen but for now it is the album and his new book which both take the center stage for Vast Aire.

Atmosphere Live @ The House of Blues in San Diego
Last Friday Atmosphere’s tour stopped in San Diego so I drove down to hang out with some of my best friends so we could all enjoy one of our favorite hip hop duos of all time. This is the 10th time I’ve seen Atmosphere perform live and we were lucky because Slug was celebrating his 44th birthday that night and seemed extra amped to be playing in front of the San Diego crowed. The place was packed (as you can see from the photos and videos) and Slug did his thing as always, digging back into his vast library of classics which us die hard fans could not get enough of. I grew up listening to this music and even though Slug is old enough to be my dad, he is still one of the best in the game and it was almost a nostalgic event as you could see that Slug too had grown up a lot since the beginning. Slug may not be super gritty or have crazy punch lines but is music is the truth and full of soul. These days I value that over just about anything else.
If you have a chance to see this tour please do it. Request a media pass and go nuts because who knows how many more chances we will have to see these guys really do this with everything they have. Check out the videos below and stay up!
