Dexter - Hi-Hat Club Vol. 3 / The Jazz Files(2010)

1.Dexter - Hi-Hat Club Vol. 3 / The Jazz Files
Link
Dexter is taking an new look at the long going love affair between hip-hop and jazz. From Stetsasonic to Gang Starr to Madlib, it is not an easy path to follow, but the 26 year old producer is adding a new and fresh style to it.
The sound design of Dexter's "Jazz Files" is dusty but with an unmistakable 2010 twist. As much inspired by Wes Montgomery and Ramsey Lewis as by Sun Ra and Dave Pike, Dexter's tracks are never just "jazzy". They live and breathe jazz by combining the freedom and artisty of jazz with the craft of a free-thinking beatsmith.

Infinit Evol has lived from orphanage to group home to penitentiary. Infinit grew up in the Bronx, New York where he began emceeing at an early age. As Infinit became older he moved further into the street life, and eventually ended up in an Ohio penitentiary. Shortly after his release, Infinit hooked up with long time friend, Homeskillet. Homeskillet in turn set Infinit on his current musical journey. In 2005, Infinit teamed up with producer B WiLL for their debut album on Day By Day Entertainment, "The Professor and the Mutant." Infinit now downplays his street background because he has done it all and has paid the costs. He now has found new enlightenment through expressing his musical style.

NEF121: Veteran DJ/Beatsmith Metawon comes forward with
Choplifter twenty tracks of fresh sounds and pristine
hip-hop stylings, on Neferiu Records. Sifting through masses
of music, Metawon uses his keen sense to swoop in and rescue
choice samples, like POWs in a mine field of forgotten
flavor. After airlifting them to safety, Meta coalesces them
into a sound-scape, and presents them to a troop of trigger
happy MCs; indeed, some of Canadas finest.
Respected on the underground, Meta had no trouble recruiting
high caliber mic controllers to complete his vision. Rhymers
like Touch, Cam the Wizzard, Teekay (Dragon Fli Empire),
Ghettosocks, Theo 3, Chadio, and Jeff Spec bless the tracks
lyrically, and do not disappoint.
Metawons beats are like a premium beer, smooth, distinct,
and easy going down. Soulful backdrops, well placed, long
forgotten but freshly diced samples and crisp drums are the
hallmark of this 20 track collection, his second on Neferiu
Records, and first since relocating along with
WorkTurkeyMusic from Calgary to Vancouver. Check out
Choplifter and enjoy the results of Metawons mission,
while simultaneously exploring the rhyme styles of some of
Canadas illest.

The Soul System EP is the newest project from Detroit's Nametag, produced entirely by Black Bethoven. The concept of the "Soul System" is, "One producer, One emcee, One concept...One EP." It came about originally with Black Bethoven preparing to release an instrumental CD to follow up 2009's "Da Ear Hustle" but with an idea inspired by Dub MD, the emcee and producer decided to team up and create a music piece that provides food for thought you wouldn't find in your local grocery aisle. With tracks like "Time" which is the EP's leading single, Nametag and Black Bethoven prove that soul music has a permanent spot in the hip hop genre.
After a plethra of mixtapes and EPs, Nametag is finally releasing his first official solo album titled "The Name Is Tag". Although there is no set release date yet, Nametag has confirmed the album will be a 2010 release. The production for the LP is a definite eyebrow raiser with beat contributions from international producer Black Milk, Black Bethoven and Chris Sholar. It is also filled with guest features from groups such as Street Justice, Cold Men Young, and champion-esque collabs with Finale, Quest M.C.O.D.Y, Buff 1 and Ro Spit. It's safe to say that "The Name Is Tag" will be an undeniable album, stay tuned.

The late '60s were an explosive time in America. Flower power was blooming, civil rights were in full swing, and while American soldiers were fighting in Vietnam, American musicians were creating several brands of rebellious music back home. One such musician, a trombonist/conga player from Pontiac, Michigan, had grown weary of his nation's volatile political climate. In the wake of Martin Luther King Jr.'s assassination, Melvyn Price set sail for Sweden where he immediately began gigging with Scandinavia's jet-set jazz musicians. In 1974, after a pair of primarily percussive albums intended to aid dance instruction, Price composed and recorded his masterpiece, Rhythm and Blues, released on his own Mel-Dor label. The music was simple, yet inspiring, pairing Sweden's disciplined session players with imported Latin American percussionists. Rhythm and Blues was never widely distributed abroad, and has, in recent years, fetched top dollar at auction. This reissue is the fourth release by Wax Poetics Records, who, like their sister publication, is quickly becoming the authority on soul music's unsung heroes. This unique album includes all of the original artwork, as well as in-depth liner notes and rare photos exclusive to this release.
