This photo is horseshit.

The "old school" isn't all it's cracked up to be it was basically the same situation back then.

From Rapper's Delight definitely an Old school song:

"ya see i got more clothes than muhammad ali and i dress so viciously
i got bodyguards, i got two big cars
that definitely aint the wack
i got a lincoln continental and a sunroof cadillac
so after school, i take a dip in the pool
which really is on the wall
i got a color tv so i can see
the knicks play basketball
hear me talkin bout checkbooks, credit cards
more money than a sucker could ever spend"

Here's a picture of Grandmaster flash and the furious 5:

Here's Biggie wearing fur:

And that;s just shit off the top of my head while I'm at work. Hip hop has always had a crass maerialistic side and there's nothing that will change that. Instead, how about checking some of the current guys who are making intelligent, creative, and even aggresive music today.

Listen to EL P, Killer Mike, Aesop Rock, Death Grips among many many others who have all made KILLER albums this year. It's people hanging on to the old school that are killing hip hop more than anything else.

"hip hop is not what it is today". I guess everyone knows where this quote comes from. I don't consider myself as one who's not open to new stuff but I still like the picture insofar as it made me laugh, that's it. I was not thinking about writing a novel about it how you did Anonymous no1. I don't think I'm stuck listening to "I left my wallet in El Segundo" and I think you're talking in extremes. of course hip-hop has always had the materialistic side but this pic is just fun, that's it. hip-hop's in constant evolution and even the ones who've been in the game for more than 20 years have evolved and changed a lot (both in good and bad ways). you can dislike Life's Good if you're an Illmatic fan. you can hate Undun if you're an Illadelph Halflife fan but the matter of fact is that we must accept that the game's not the same. it cannot be. the cats you mentioned are real hard-hitters, no doubt. not my cup of tea, I rather listen to Blu&Exile, Oddisee, Kev Brown, Paten Locke, Apollo Brown, Fashawn, Suff Daddy, Ghettosocks, Muneshine or Statik Selektah if we talk about the new stuff. but it's only me and I respect your personal taste too. peace to all the real hip-hop lovers regardless of being old or new school! this is a culture and a way of thinking which goes way beyond the music itself.
